Banat Teacher, Art Editor, Journalist & Author
Hans Bohn, born in 1927 (Kleinsanktpeter Totina), witnessed both the heyday of the German peasantry in the Banat, as well as its demise in the turmoil of the Second World War. He survived eight years Russian labor camps and forced labor, worked as teacher and arts editor in Timisoara, Romania, and came to Germany in 1990. Today the author lives in Landshut, and now has published several books.

As a national minority, the Banat Swabians always found themselves in a difficult position. A Banater publicist appropriately described the situation as follows: ‘There can hardly be a tribe in south-eastern Europe which has been more affected by the war and its consequences than the Banat Swabians. As a minority in a country of a different nationality, the Swabians were abandoned again and again to the political and chauvinistic despotism during times of political unrest, which ranged from harassment in cultural and educational policies, restriction of development opportunities in public life and political de-nationalization, to deprivation of rights and life threats, e.g. abduction.
